Matthias Rippmann studied Architecture at the University of Melbourne and the University of Stuttgart from where he graduated in 2007. After his graduation he worked for LAVA and Werner Sobek Engineers as an architect and programmer on projects such as Stuttgart 21 (Ingenhoven Architects) and the Heydar Aliyev Center (Zaha Hadid Architects). After teaching several studios and co-leading a BMWi research project at the Institute for Lightweight Structures he joined the Block Research Group, ETH Zürich, in 2010. His PhD research is focused on structural form finding for funicular structures linked to construction-aware design strategies. He lectured in offices (Zaha Hadid, Herzog & de Meuron), at universities (TU Delft, ABK Stuttgart, UDK Berlin) and conferences (IASS, DMS, SMG) worldwide. Matthias Rippmann is a founding partner of ROK, Rippmann Oesterle Knauss, a design and consulting firm established in 2010.
